Applying from Out-of-State

We welcome cadet applicants and lateral applicants from outside of New Mexico who are interested in a career with the New Mexico State Police. For those considering a law enforcement career in the Land of Enchantment, you will find a low cost of living; opportunities for camping, hiking, hunting, and other outdoor activities from golf to skiing during our four distinct seasons; diverse cultures; large metropolitan areas and small villages; and a challenging and rewarding law enforcement career.

Applicants will be required to travel to Santa Fe, NM on two occasions to test. To minimize your trips to New Mexico, a test date will not be set until you application is received, reviewed and approved by the Recruiting Section.

  • On your first trip to Santa Fe, NM, you will perform the physical fitness, written, and polygraph examinations. This will be done at the Law Enforcement Academy in Santa Fe, NM, within a two-day time frame.
  • During the second trip to Santa Fe, NM, you will be required to pass an oral interview, the Chief’s selection, a psychological evaluation, and a medical examination.

* Applicants are responsible for travel arrangements and expenses.

* Professional business attire is required for every phase of the process, other than the PT assessments or PT test.
